One of my friends happens to have written a major pokemon fan fiction, which even got it's own TVTropes page. It's not well written for the first few chapters, but the series took off and got good. It might inspire you in a few places. He certainly could use a nice cover page for his story. This is his fanfiction.net account: [link]

He's currently finished that the first book to one of his series, and is working on a sequal to that, another story where Ash and Arceus swap bodies so Arceus can take a vacation, and is doing a one-shot story where two powerful pokemon brawl. I won't spoil it, but it's going to be intense.

Sorry if my reply came out hurtful it is just that for this story I am planning on following the same path as Digimon Data Squad the show from beginning to end.
